Clarify whether the ScrumMaster is active in development or not
Conflicting opinions have been expressed (both in our team and in Scrum Alliance articles) as to whether the ScrumMaster is also active in development (e.g. in writing code). It would be useful to have a clear answer (yes, no, unspecified) so that we can stop discussing what Scrum is and get down to whether it is true-Scrum that we want or something resembling it.

Sentence in Scrum Guide requires multiple increments for each Sprint
"The purpose of each Sprint is to deliver Increments of potentially releasable functionality that adhere to the Scrum Team’s current definition of “Done.” "
Suggest instead:
"The purpose of each Sprint is to deliver one or more Increments of potentially releasable functionality that adhere to the Scrum Team’s current definition of “Done.”1 vote -
Add below brief video as an introduction
We tend to read less and watch more movies instead.
With that in mind I created this video which you could consider adding as an alternative or first introduction.

Include an easy signup for people to get notifications when the Scrum Guide changes
I had someone in a Scrum class ask me if there was a way for her to get notifications of when the Scrum Guide changes. I thought it was an interesting idea for consideration.

Using Scrum for data mining/analytics projects
It would be extremely useful to post some tips on how to successfully implement Scrum on data mining/analytics projects, particularly for those that follow a data mining framework like CRISP-DM.

clarify the "Scrum Master Service to the Product Owner" section
It is not clear who the "target" of individual activities is in this section ("service to the development team" is much clearer). For example, should the SM or the PM understand product planning in an empirical environment. Should "helping the Scrum Team understand the need for clear and concise product backlog items" read "helping the Product Owner understand..."?

Move "Each increment is additive" from "Definition of Done" to "Increment"
The section "Definition of Done" includes the following paragraph:
"Each Increment is additive to all prior Increments and thoroughly tested, ensuring that all Increments work together."
Looking at the text preceding and following it, this paragraph looks a bit out of place. Also, unlike the other bits related to the Increment in this section, it does not refer to "Done" at all.
I propose moving it to the "Increment" section because it is part of the definition of what an Increment is.

Tighten up "Helping the Development Team to create high-value products;"
"Helping the Development Team to create high-value products;" is a phrase ascribed as a task for the SM. It seems a bit vague in it's context. If what you mean is that the SM does this when he encourages and teaches all the Scrum rules, then I understand. But in it's current context it seems like another action to perform but an action that isn't really defined.

Build a RACI (or RASCI) for Scrum - as a snapshot in an appendix of the Scrum Guide?
Do you see any value in a one-page RACI addition to the Scrum Guide?
I've been learning all about Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), and proposed the need for a RACI. It was actually on their list for 4.0 considerations, which was nice to know. SAFe has additional roles and teams identified at the program and portfolio levels.
Also, I had weeks of agile-based training thru ThoughtWorks back in 2010, and their training materials had so many responsibilities embedded throughout that I saw value in creating my own RACI.

revise one word in the Sprint Planning section
I see what I believe as an incorrect word in the Topic One subsection of Sprint Planning. The last sentence has "The Sprint Goal is an objective that will be met within the Sprint through the implementation of the PRODUCT Backlog", when PRODUCT should be SPRINT. Agree or disagree?

Change the short definition of Scrum in the guide to tell the reader what Scrum is, not its benefits
The beginning of the guide currently reads "Scrum is a framework within which people can address complex adaptive problems, while productively and creatively delivering products of the highest possible value."
This tells me the benefits of Scrum, not what Scrum is, and thus is less meaningful. I would propose changing it to:
"Scrum is a framework where products are developed by a self-organizing team, in multiple fixed-length sprints, in full collaboration with a product owner, using Agile values and principles throughout."

Clarify relation between Product Backlog and Sprint Backlog
"All incomplete Product Backlog Items are re-estimated and put back on the Product Backlog."
How can you put a Product Backlog Item "back" on the Product Backlog? By definition it is already on the Product Backlog.
My interpretation: They are put back from the Sprint Backlog to the Product Backlog. This would mean these sets are disjoint.
Which seems unlogical, because per definition the product backlog consists of all things that "constitute the changes to be made to the product in future releases" which includes the Sprint Backlog.6 votes
